You asked again with careful eyes,
“If someone knows?” “If someone pries?”
As though my lips would break their vow
or fail the trust they carry now.
You do not know the things I’d keep,
the promises that sink so deep.
A heart that’s trusted once with yours
would guard it all behind closed doors.
I’d never speak what isn’t mine,
nor let your private truths unwind.
Your fears would find a faithful place,
protected by my quiet grace.
Yet every question leaves a mark,
a little shadow, growing dark.
It makes me wonder, makes me see,
if you believe in less of me.
I do not long for crowds to know,
or whispers where the rumors grow.
I do not need the world to see
the conversations shared with me.
I only ache because it seems
I’m hidden with your guarded dreams.
As though our kinship must remain
a thing concealed through fear or shame.
There’s such a difference, clear and true,
between protecting something new
and hiding it because you fear
that someone else might draw too near.
I’ve never once been ashamed
to speak your kindness or your name.
Though I would never share the part
you placed with confidence in heart.
So trust these hands that hold your own.
Trust all the care that I have shown.
For I would carry every key
without betraying your belief.
I don’t want headlines sung aloud,
or recognition from a crowd.
I simply hope, in time, you’ll see
you’ll never have to hide from me.
