The Confession

July 5, 2026

I spoke the words I could not hide,
and laid my trembling heart aside.
With hopeful hands and quiet grace,
I placed my truth before your face.

You held it gently, soft and kind,
with honest words and careful mind.
You didn’t say such words to me,
though neither did you set me free.

With gentle tone in your reply,
No sharpened blade. No cold goodbye.
You said you liked me, nothing less,
yet still my heart felt hollowness.

My mind can see the truth so clear,
you’ve done no wrong to bring me here.
Love isn’t something hearts command,
nor blooms on cue at one demand.

But reason loses every race
when shame comes rushing in its place.
It paints my cheeks with crimson flame
and whispers I should leave in blame.

It tells me, “Run before you break.
Before your hope becomes mistake.
Before he sees your heart too plain,
before you have to feel this pain.”

Yet if I run, what would I prove
except I’m frightened by my move?
That I’d abandon something rare
because my heart arrived first there.

You never mocked what I confessed.
You never made me feel less blessed.
You chose the truth instead of lies,
and kindness shone within your eyes.

Perhaps the hardest love to bear
is one that simply isn’t there…
not gone forever, lost from view,
but still becoming, still brand new.

So I will stand where hope has grown,
though waiting chills me to the bone.
For “not today” is not “goodbye,”
and dawn is patient with the sky.

If love is patient, let me be
as brave as what I long to see.
I’ll quiet fear, release control,
and trust that time reveals the whole.

Until that day, I’ll face the sting,
without forsaking everything.
Because a heart that’s loved too fast
may still find home…
if it can last.
