She knocked upon a quiet door,
then stepped inside their world once more.
The silence wrapped around the air,
and she half-wondered, “Are you there?”
She found a lonely corner’s glow,
with nowhere else she wished to go.
She curled up small and softly sighed,
while questions gathered deep inside.
Perhaps he’s busy, she confessed.
Perhaps today just needed rest.
Yet still she lingered where they’d been,
afraid the light had somehow dimmed.
Then came the sound of footsteps near,
the quiet kind that calmed her fear.
He sat beside her waiting heart
as though they never were apart.
“I never left,” he gently said.
“No shadow stood where hope had fled.
I was never far from you.
This little world is mine here too.”
The walls she feared began to fade,
where cracks were only those doubt made.
No empty room or closing door.
Just him beside her, as once before.
“Just this corner?” came his grin.
“There’s more for us than where you’ve been.
Let’s wander farther, hand in hand.
There’s still so much we haven’t planned.”
“Where shall we go?” he asked to see,
as though her dreams held every key.
No map was needed, none at all,
for home was waiting through it all.
Then softly, with his humble smile,
he stilled her restless heart a while.
“I’m lucky just to be here too.”
Such simple words, yet wholly true.
So if tomorrow brings a cloud,
or silence gathers like a shroud,
She’ll think of how her heart would race,
when wrapped up in his warm embrace.
For sometimes fear writes stories first,
and paints the endings at their worst.
But hope arrives without a sound,
when two hearts choose the same small ground.
Their little world may not be wide,
yet somehow it holds endless sky.
And every time they choose to stay,
They build their world anew each day.
