A World Collapsing

July 15, 2026

Tonight the stars forgot to shine,
and silence swallowed every sign.
The little world we came to know
became a place I couldn’t go.

But I went in anyway,
Knowing you chose not to stay,
Consumed with thoughts and wondering why,
I wasn’t worth for you to try.

You knocked upon my hopeful heart,
then somehow chose to drift apart.
Not out of anger, not from blame,
but still the ending burned the same.

You asked if I would choose just you.
I looked at you and said, “I do.”
I offered everything I knew,
yet somehow that could not break through.

How strange that love can bloom so fast,
then fear arrives and shadows cast
their heavy hands on what was bright,
turning noon into midnight.

You said you fell.
You said you cried.
You said your heart was torn inside.
You said your thoughts could find no shore,
yet closed the gentle, wooden door.

And I…
I stood outside,
still holding all the dreams we’d tied
like paper lanterns to the sky,
too beautiful to let them die.

The gesture wasn’t made of steel.
It carried every hope I’d feel.
A promise whispered, soft and small,
that maybe I had found it all.

I was already learning how
to wear forever in the now.
To picture ordinary days,
your quiet smile, gentle gaze.

Now every corner of our place
still softly holds the shape of grace.
The chair you pulled beside my own.
The love that somehow felt like home.

People will tell me not to wait,
that broken things belong to fate.
That healing means to close the door
and never wander there once more.

But hearts are stubborn, aching things.
They do not move on borrowed wings.
They stay awhile where love has been,
replaying every “what if” again.

So let me cry until I can
accept what neither of us planned.
Let every tear say what I can’t,
that losing hope is losing land.

If morning brings you back someday,
you’ll find I never cursed your name.
Only whispered through the night
that I still hoped you’d win your fight.

But if this truly is goodbye,
I’ll let these shattered dreams still lie
as proof that, for one fleeting space,
I knew the warmth of your embrace.

Our little world may fade from view,
its quiet streets now empty too.
Yet somewhere in its gentle air
will live the truth that we were there.

And though tonight my heart has cracked
beneath the weight of all it lacked,
I’ll keep one fragment safe inside,
where someone once looked in my eyes,

…and asked softly,
“Do you choose me?
Do you choose us?
and what can be?”

For one heartbreaking moment still,
the answer that remains my will

…is “Yes.”

A thousand times until…
These tears can dry and I can heal.
