Spoken words with steady grace,
As though no storm had crossed your face.
They came so non-chalant and clear,
While mine dissolved in silent fear.
Mistakes I made had broken trust,
And left your heart to feel unjust,
For standards that you set so high,
Could not be met, though I would try.
Said out loud with ease and care,
A truth too heavy not to bear.
To me they fell like winter rain,
Each syllable baptizing pain.
I wanted one more “maybe yet,”
One fragile hope you might regret.
Instead our story was wrapped up tight,
And tucked so neatly out of sight.
As you search for someone rare,
A soul untouched by doubt or wear.
A heart that never slipped or strayed,
A love no human hand had frayed.
But people stumble. People bend.
They lose their way and learn again.
We’re not composed of flawless stone;
We’re patched by cracks we’ve always known.
If every fault becomes goodbye,
Then every love is doomed to die.
For no one walks this earth above
Fragile wounds; imperfect love.
But when one mistake cut far too deep,
I couldn’t mend for you to keep.
Though all I wished was one more dawn,
You simply chose to carry on.
So here I stand, with empty hands,
Still failing all your set demands.
Not faithless. Not devoid of care.
Just painfully, imperfect there.
Perhaps one day you’ll come to see
The flaw you found was simply me;
A heart that loved with all it knew,
As imperfect as it could for you.
And maybe then you’ll understand
Love isn’t built by faultless hands.
It isn’t choosing those who shine…
It’s staying when stars misalign.
