Intensity

September 1, 2026

I used to think that love should burn,
A raging fire at every turn.
That if it didn’t shake my soul,
It couldn’t possibly make me whole.

I learned to measure love in ache,
In sleepless nights and hands that shake.
In racing hearts and stomach drops,
In desperate starts and sudden stops.

Intensity became my proof,
A lightning strike without a roof.
The higher that my heartbeat climbed,
The more I thought our souls aligned.

A tender word could make me fly,
A silence made me wonder why.
One moment heaven, one despair,
And somehow, I called all that care.

Because intensity feels deep,
It steals your hunger, steals your sleep.
It floods the body, fills the mind,
And leaves your better sense behind.

It whispers, This is something rare.
You wouldn’t hurt if you didn’t care.
You wouldn’t crave another touch
Unless you truly loved this much.

But maybe love is not the flame,
That burns until you lose your name.
Maybe butterflies aren’t fate,
Sometimes they’re fear dressed up as great.

Maybe the rush that feels divine
Is just a nervous warning sign.
And maybe peace feels strange because
I’ve rarely learned what safety was.

For calm does not demand I chase,
Or beg another heart for space.
It doesn’t disappear, return,
Then ask me once again to burn.

Calm doesn’t leave me questioning
What every word or silence means.
It doesn’t make me earn my place,
It meets my chaos there with grace.

And sometimes I miss the high,
The dizzy climb, the endless why.
The kind of feeling so immense
It drowns out reason, thought, and sense.

But I am learning, day by day,
That love need not destroy my way.
That steady hands and softer skies
Can hold a love that never lies.

I’ve had enough of love that screams,
Of chasing storms and fractured dreams.
I’m learning peace is nothing wrong,
It’s what I wanted all along.

And when intensity calls my name,
Inviting me to chase the flame,
I’ll choose the warmth that lets me be,
Not what consumes, but sets me free.
