I miss you in the morning, when the world is barely bright,
I miss you in the silence that settles in at night.
I miss the way your presence made ordinary days feel new,
And every little moment somehow led my thoughts to you.
I miss the way you held me, the safety of your arms,
The softness underneath you, calming all of my alarms.
I miss your kiss, your laughter, every look I came to know,
And all the little pieces I wasn’t ready to let go.
I miss you when I’m busy, I miss you when I’m still,
I miss you when I think I someday won’t…but know I will.
Because healing doesn’t mean that I can simply shut the door,
Or teach my heart to suddenly forget what it adored.
I wonder what you’re doing, if you’re laughing somewhere too,
If something small reminds you of the things we used to do.
I wonder if you miss me when the evening settles in,
Or if you’ve found a quieter place beneath your stubborn skin.
I miss the conversations, even those that went astray,
The thousand things I wish that we had found the words to say.
I miss the possibility of everything we might have been,
The world we started building that I still can wander in.
I miss just touching you…your fingers wrapped in mine,
The way the whole damn universe could disappear in time.
One kiss could make the noise inside my restless heart grow still,
And knowing I can’t reach for you is something I still feel.
But missing you won’t make you magically return.
Some lessons only heartbreak has the cruelty to learn.
I can love you from the distance; I can ache until I’m through.
Because hurting while I’m healing does not mean I can’t miss you.
So tonight I’ll let myself admit the simplest thing is true.
There’s an empty little place in me that still belongs to you.
I don’t know where this story ends or what we’re meant to do.
I only know, with all my heart…that I keep missing you.
