Where You Are

I wonder what you’re doing now,
If peace has found your restless brow.
If morning came a little kind,
Or left too many thoughts behind.

I wonder if you’ve slept enough,
If days without me still feel tough.
If you’ve been laughing, feeling free,
Or had a moment missing me.

I wonder if you’re eating well,
If there’s a story you won’t tell.
If you’ve been busy late at night,
Distracting thoughts until daylight.

I wonder if you think of us,
Without the anger, hurt, or fuss.
If something small throughout your day
Has brought a memory my way.

I wonder if you’re hurting too,
Though that’s not what I’d wish for you.
I’d never want your heart to ache
Just so I’d know mine wasn’t fake.

I hope you’re finding room to breathe,
And sorting what you still believe.
I hope the quiet that you chose
Is giving something back it owes.

I hope you’re safe. I hope you’re fed.
I hope there’s softness in your head.
I hope you’re finding bits of light
And sleeping peacefully at night.

And though I wish you’d somehow show
A sign that you’re good, for me to know.
I’ll keep my distance, let you be,
Though every part still wants to see.

Because beneath the hurt I knew,
There’s still a love I have for you.
And even if we’re worlds apart,
I hope life’s gentle with your heart.

So somewhere underneath these skies,
Beyond the reach of searching eyes,
Whatever road you’re walking through,
I hope, my love, it’s kind to you.
