Another sunset, another night,
Another day of holding tight.
Another morning I awake,
Still choosing love for patience’ sake.
I cannot rush what needs to mend,
Or know exactly where we’ll end.
I cannot heal what isn’t mine,
Or force two hearts to share their time.
But every day that passes through
Is one day closer – me to you.
One day of healing, one day more,
To treasure who this heart is for.
So I will love you from afar,
Not asking you to heal each scar.
I’ll give you room, I’ll give you grace,
And trust that time will find its pace.
Some days the waiting weighs on me,
Because I know what we could be.
I want to reach across the space,
To feel your arms, to kiss your face.
I cannot lie, it hurts to see,
You hurting while you mend from me.
I see the doubt within your eyes,
A deep reluctance, I surmise.
But I’ll hold back and not get near,
If waiting helps to heal your fear,
That we could wreck this through such haste,
So I will wait for your embrace.
I don’t need answers every day,
Or promises to make me stay.
Just something quiet in my heart
That says this distance has its part.
Because tomorrow, when it’s through,
I’ll be one day closer still to you.
And every night I make it through
Is one less night between us two.
So heal the places that still ache.
Take all the time your heart must take.
I’ll tend my own heart while I wait,
And leave the rest to time and fate.
And maybe someday I will see
What all these waiting days could be,
Not time I lost or love deferred,
But proof of every quiet word.
Until that day, I’ll hold this true,
Today, I’m one day closer too.
One day of patience, one day stronger,
One day down, just one day longer.
